Protecting Your Son or Daughter From Criminal Charges
In South Metro Atlanta or Central Georgia
Juvenile court is a different world. The procedures and punishments are different from adult court, but the potential penalties and future impact of juvenile offenses should never be underestimated.
My name is Josh W. Thacker. I am a criminal defense lawyer in Griffin, Georgia, with substantial experience in juvenile law. I have represented youths accused of everything from skipping school to major felonies. I am also a former juvenile prosecutor, and I use those insights into the local justice system to advocate for juveniles in trouble with the law.
Getting Your Child a Second Chance in Juvenile Court
The juvenile justice system is designed to promote rehabilitation over punishment. I make sure that your young person is offered help and opportunities instead of simply being penalized. Contact me today to set up a free consultation.
Griffin Juvenile Crimes Attorney
In juvenile court, youths are not convicted of a crime in the adult court sense. However, an adjudication as a juvenile delinquent does not go away at age 21. Juvenile offenses can be used against your son or daughter as a prior offense if he or she is charged with a new crime in the future. My role is to make sure that your youth gets due process and is not railroaded or unjustly punished, and to take advantage of counseling, treatment and other rehabilitative programs.
I have defended young people accused of every type of crime, including:
- Truancy (dropping out of school)
- Drug possession and underage drinking
- Traffic offenses such as speeding, reckless driving or impaired driving
- Bringing weapons or fake weapons to school
- Fights and assaults at school
- Shoplifting, theft or burglary
- Major felonies, including aggravated assault in a drive-by shooting
Offenses committed on school property carry a double penalty. In addition to juvenile court adjudication, the school districts have their own tribunals for student offenses — a separate proceeding with a separate judge and prosecutor. I have experience representing youths before school tribunals and negotiating to avoid suspensions and other harsh sanctions such as exclusion from sports and school activities.
