Tough Criminal Defense With a Prosecutor's Eye
I provide a vigorous defense to anyone accused of a crime or a traffic offense. When the dust clears, my clients know that I have exhausted every avenue to make the charges go away or to limit the penalties and the collateral consequences.
My name is Josh W. Thacker, a criminal defense lawyer and former Assistant District Attorney who has prosecuted and defended hundreds of cases in 10 years of practice. I represent residents of South Metro Atlanta and Central Georgia, as well as truckers and motorists from elsewhere in Georgia and from out of state.
I take your criminal charges or traffic violation seriously. I put myself in the shoes of the prosecutor to assess the strength of case — and the weaknesses. I put myself in the shoes of my client to be reminded that jail or license suspension or a criminal conviction has a real and adverse impact on the accused and their families. Then I put on my defense lawyer shoes to aggressively challenge the evidence, engage the D.A. in negotiations or create the strategies to defend your freedom at trial.
You Can Trust Me to Fight for You
I am regularly hired to defend people whom I once prosecuted in my assistant D.A. days. They remember that I treated them decently, like a human being. They remember that I knew the law and could stand my ground in court. They rightly conclude that if I knew how to put a case together, I also know how to take one apart.
As a Georgia criminal law attorney, I have a record of successful outcomes in pretrial motions, in jury trials and in favorable plea agreements. I handle the full spectrum of criminal law, with an emphasis on DUI defense, CDL license defense and speeding tickets and traffic citations issued in the I-75 corridor.
In addition to my insights from six years as a prosecutor in the Griffin and Coweta judicial circuits, I have studied advanced strategies through the National College for DUI Defense. I am also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
You Can Trust Me to Keep You Involved and Informed
I understand how important your case is and when you have a question, you expect a prompt answer from your attorney. I return calls as soon as possible, and my knowledgeable and helpful staff is usually able to address your concerns if I am unavailable.
If you are not a resident of Georgia, I can usually handle your traffic violation or minor offense matters via phone, e-mail and fax, so that you do not have to travel here unnecessarily.
